14:00 - 16:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 1: Com and change, This introductory lecture takes its starting point in the concept of communication. We talk about the disciplines strategic communication and organizational communication as a background to the research area of change communication. Furthermore, we discuss what communication is and what different perceptions of communication mean when we study and work with change. Camilla Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Johansson, C. & Heide, M. (2008). 09:00 - 11:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 2: What is org change?, During this lecture we treat different perspectives on organizational change. A prerequisite for being able to work with and explore change-related communication is that we have a good knowledge of what organizational changes are. During this lecture we also talk about different change models and driving forces behind organizational changes. Camilla Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Lewis, L. (2011). Organizational change: creating change through strategic communication. Malden, MA: John Wiley. (p. 21-51) Senior, B. & Swailes, S. (2010). Organizational change. Harlow, UK: Pearson. (Chapter 1, 2 & 3)

13:00 - 15:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 3: Leadership persp., This is the first of two consecutive lectures that focus on leadership and the role of leadership communication in change processes. During the first lecture we will discuss different theoretical perspectives on leadership that have been predominant during different time periods. Early perspectives emphasize leaders as persons, while more recent perspectives focus on leadership as a social process and also include the perspective of followers. Camilla Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Jackson, B. & Parry, K. (2011). A very short, fairly interesting and reasonably cheap book about studying leadership. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage. Senior, B. & Swailes, S. (2010). Organizational change. Harlow, UK: Pearson. (Chapter 6)

10:00 - 12:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 5: Com.planning, Many organizational changes are still conducted as top-down initiated planned change projects with a rather distinct beginning and end. This lecture will focus on the role of communication during the different phases of such planned changes. In order to make change happens you need to plan your communication, which not only is a matter of clear and timely messages but also about dialogue and involvement. Howard Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Klein, S. (1996). A management communication strategy for change. Journal of Organizational Change Management, 9: 32–46. Quirke, B. (2008). Making the connections: Using internal communication to turn strategy into action. Aldershot: Gower.
13:00 - 15:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 4: Leadership persp. II, During this second lecture about leadership, we will go deeper into the communicative aspects of leadership and leading change. The idea of leadership as ‘management of meaning’ will be focused upon. Camilla Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Jackson, B. & Parry, K. (2011). A very short, fairly interesting and reasonably cheap book about studying leadership. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage. Quirke, B. (2008). 13:00 - 15:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 6: Internal com., Newer models within change related communication emphasize that previous research has been working with a simplified notion of change processes and neglected the complexity typically involved in these processes. This lecture addresses Lewis’ (2011) change model, which can be used to understand the complexity at play and how to handle it. Camilla Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Lewis, L. (2011). 10:00 - 12:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 7 and Lecture 9, L7: The internal communication during organizational changes can facilitate sense making and help create an understanding of why changes occur. But why do staff members perceive changes and internal communication so differently? This is an issue that will be discussed during the lecture. L9: Organizational culture can be both an asset and an obstacle to change. What role(s) does culture(s) play in regards to the organization’s willingness to change? 13:00 - 15:00 Digitalt Lecture Lecture 8: Power & Resistance, We often hear that organizational changes are always met by resistance. But is that really so? For what reasons do people feel hesitant when there are changes in the workplace? During this lecture, we discuss power in organization; why changes so often are met with resistance; if resistance can be positive; and why knowledge on these issues are so important in change processes. Howard Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Lewis, L. (2011). Organizational change: creating change through strategic communication. Malden, MA: John Wiley. (p. 177-207) Senior, B. & Swailes, S. (2010). During this lecture we talk about how change can be controlled and counter acted through, for example, different stories and conversational forms. Howard Nothhaft KOMC17-24V Fletcher, C.
